A Japanese restaurant recommended for children's anniversary lunch in Kyoto

Updated: Oct 19, 2022

Hello, thank you for visiting and coming back to Porch's blog. Today, I'm writing about my recommended restaurant in Kyoto for any kind of anniversary.

There are countless moments to celebrate since a baby arrived in your family. First time turning over, first baby food is one of the examples. Also, every culture has different events for a baby but a 1-year-old birthday is the first big anniversary that every culture seems to share.

At the time your baby is turning 1 year old, you feel your baby is becoming a little monster. They can crawl, they can walk and they express their feelings and frustration. They would catch people's attention by their voices and the sounds that they make so places that you can go with your child are getting more limited.

In a view of a mom of 1 year old, I wanted to make my son's birthday somehow formal and memorable. As a first step, I looked up on the internet and listed a few restaurants that say "good for anniversary for kids". Then, I contacted two Japanese restaurants.

The first restaurant that I called didn't work out because they don't accept a kid under six years old. However, they said they could accommodate a little child at their sister's restaurant in a box seat, not a private room. But it didn't go well anyways because I thought a private room is a must for us.

Under the circumstances, I called the second choice restaurant. It turned out very well and it became our favorite restaurant. That is Ganko Takasegawa Nijoen.

Here are the details.

Ganko Takasegawa Nijoen

First and foremost, they are genuinely kids friendly. Upon entering the private room, a small bowl, spoon, and fork were set on the table. They also asked us if my son would feel more comfortable with a different kid chair to sit on.

Secondly, they are used to taking care of anniversaries. They have small lunch sets, mini kaiseki courses, and full kaiseki courses that are perfect for a special occasion. I can feel staff there make a good team and work efficiently but heartfully enough to communicate with their guests.

One thing I should mention is that they accommodate parties and a big group of tourists as well so the restaurants can look overwhelmingly busy if you see people are in the entrance. Once they entered their party room, it can be calm again.

Another thing that I liked about this restaurant is the garden. It looks splendid. I wish I could have walked in the garden if my son was able to walk already. I will keep that for the next time we visit the restaurant.

If you are interested in a birthday celebration at a Japanese restaurant, please consider if they have a private room and they are used to accommodate anniversaries!

Have a good day!
